Why natural latex
Natural latex from Hevea trees is flexible, waterproof, and biodegradable. It is the foundation of every Gudgumz product — chosen for real-world utility, not marketing claims.
Where it comes from
Hevea brasiliensis is tapped by hand in Kerala. The white sap is collected, processed, and formed into products in our Kanjirappally workshop.
How it is made durable
Raw latex is vulcanized with sulphur so polymer chains cross-link. That gives the elasticity and strength needed for grow bags, boots, gloves, and sanitary socks.
Natural vs synthetic rubber
Synthetic rubbers last longer in storage but do not biodegrade like natural latex. Natural latex offers better tear resistance and tactile response for products that flex and fold in daily use.
How it ages
Exposure to oxygen, UV, and humidity causes gradual oxidation. Color may shift and the surface may soften over seasons. That is expected — and why we document spotting openly.
